Hello! I have a wonderful prompt rolled up today with a low word count.

A couple of things of notes with these (a disclaimer for every post):

  • I do roll up a word count aspiration, but I am trying not to view myself as a failure if I don’t hit it for some reason.
  • These are all one-shots. They’re to get me in the writing headspace, as well as play with some characters I love.
  • I do post these on my blog, as well as on AO3, as well as on my Tumblr. So, the off chance you see it somewhere else, that’s why.

Today’s Prompt

A message-bearing lighthouse keeper wants to cure the virus and their only lead is in a market, but they will lose their divine powers.

How great is this as an NPC character in Welcome to Reddington?! I rolled for Charmed, which is also a great show for this kind of prompt. Enough water and divine characters throughout that show.

Here’s the rolled up sheet:

If this prompt isn’t doing it for you, here’s the cards used for today. Make your own prompt, and please drop your story below!

A lighthouse exists roughly two miles outside of Reddington, on an island in the ocean where the tide turns and the rocks get to be too much. What most citizens don’t realize is how hard it is to get a boat in and out of Reddington’s harbor, unless you’ve traversed the rocky ocean since you were little.

Within the lighthouse sits an old man of indeterminate age. He could be as young as sixty or two hundred years older than that easily. He has long greying hair tied back under a beanie, with a long grey beard braided, frequently sitting in an oversized rocking chair with a smoking pipe. There was no obvious entrace or exit, just smooth round walls with occasional windows.

And stairs. So, so many stairs, going up to the bright light at the top of the building. Looking around, one would find a living room, kitchenette, and a table with a half finished puzzle. No sign of a sleeping area, no bathing area. Maybe a towel, discarded near the sink.

He’s watching. He let the Sirens through, at the request. He didn’t want to; he watched them take the bodies out to sea. He’ll warn them before the next thing. It’s coming.
