TTT: Books You Can’t Borrow

JXOTVDUM
Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and was taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is about books “That I Refuse to Let Anyone Touch,” otherwise known as some of my most prized possessions! I’ll be honest, most of my books are up for borrowing, though you will cause a lot of anxiety if you haven’t proven that you’re trustworthy to return books. Honestly, it hasn’t come up in awhile! But I do have books that I wouldn’t trust anyone to borrow, not even my bestie (I’m sorry!) and mostly because they’re signed, personalized, and have a lot of meaning. There aren’t ten books on this list, so let’s all bask in the amazingness that you can borrow books from me!

A Darker Shade of Magic series by VE Schwab

You can maybe borrow the black copy. But you have to get past Liv Moore and Ghus!

All of my Schwab books are signed except two! I even have signed comics too. I am to the point I have a shelf that’s entirely Schwab books….well once I get my shelves organized again.

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper

The good news? I have an unsigned middle grade copy you can borrow! But this gorgeous hardback copy is entirely off limits. I might pull it out to show it off, especially if you (like me) love Cooper’s series. The Dark is Rising is the book that made me realize you can live in these dark, atmospheric worlds and not everything is safe. This book is probably responsible for a lot of who I am.

Vicious by Victoria Schwab

I own two copies of Vicious, both of which are signed, but this copy came all the way from Ireland! My amazing friend Ollie sent me this a few years ago after I had him on Judging Book Covers Podcast to discuss it! You can maybe MAYBE borrow the American cover, but this one is off limits!

In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume

I am an American girl, born in the late 80’s, so OF COURSE Judy Blume was a big part of my childhood! So when my step-dad and Keira went to Florida, they brought me back a gift that still makes me a little teary eyed! I recently came across an auction with many signed Judy Blume books, and I am itching to make a bid.

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

I won’t post the very embarrassing selfie I took with the author, but Bookcon 2017 was a blast! Mari at Story and Somnomancy and I immediately jumped in line to get this book. Thankfully it and the movie are both so amazing!

Animorphs 2, The Visitor, by KA Applegate

If you ever visit NYC and love YA and Children’s books, go visit Books of Wonder! On top of an amazing collection of rare children books, you can potentially pull a book off a shelf and find a signed copy! The Strand is also like this, but to a lesser extent. The Dark is Rising above was found the same way! And you have to act quick, as they definitely aren’t guaranteed to be there the next time. But seriously, this book series is so incredibly important to me, and until KA Applegate comes to the east coast, this is all I have.

Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

Honestly? You don’t want to borrow my copy of this book. It is what I wrote my senior paper on, and it is entirely highlighted and sticky note covered. But it definitely has sentimental value, both because of how much I spent with the book and what the class meant to me.

***

I have plenty of other signed books and books I treasure, but these are the ones that are entirely off limits! What books are on your list?

I also have several signed copies by VE Schwab and I wouldn’t lend them either. Great collection!
