Top Ten Tuesday was started by The Broke and the Bookish, and was taken over by That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a straight forward one: what books are you looking forward to over the second half of 2019? While I am sure this is more geared towards fall and winter releases, I am going to go with July – December, both of which make sense. Plus, there are just some great books coming out in July I want to talk about. I do have a galley of about half of these books (okay for all but five of these books), and would love love love a galley for the four I don’t have. I also couldn’t pick just ten, so enjoy my list of twelve!

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager

Riley Sager’s releases get better every year (well there’s only been two, but I have faith!) This book is coming out July 2nd, though you can expect my review for it in the next week or so! It is a mystery or a ghost story, but either way it’s about  a dark Manhattan apartment building…

The Colonel by Beau North

This is the sequel to one of my favorite Pride and Prejudice retellings, Longbourn’s Songbird. Beau North is also a friend of mine, and a brilliant writer. While I normally roll my eyes at any sequel to a retelling of Jane Austen’s, I think North has such a wonderful grasp on the characters and themes of Austen’s books that I have no doubt this book will be fantastic. Goodreads has this as coming out July 2nd, Netgalley has it as July 9th, but either way, you have plenty of time to go read Longbourn’s Songbird and then immediately pick this up!

Swipe Right for Murder by Derek Milman

I ended up getting a galley of this book at Bookcon, which made me squee quite a bit. It was one of the few books I desperately wanted, especially as I figured Netgalley would decline me (which they did.) Still, it’s about a teen boy who finds a guy on Tinder, and wakes up next to a dead body. I AM HERE FOR THIS. Comes out August 6th!

Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab

How did I luck into a galley of this book? Because I have amazing friends, that’s how! I loved the first book of this series — City of Ghosts — even though this is a middle grade book, it is still super creepy! Plus I’ll read anything Schwab writes, even if it’s just a grocery list. This sequel is due out September 3rd!

Monster, She Wrote by Lisa Kroger

The full title of this book is actually Monster, She Wrote: The Women who Pioneered Horror and Speculative Fiction. It’s a nonfiction book giving women of the past their actual spot in history for their amazing accomplishments.  I actually have three galleys of this book — one for me, one promised to a friend, and I have no idea what to do with the third one or who would even want it. I believe it is similar to Quirk’s release Paperbacks from Hell where it discusses books and their importance. This book comes out September 17th!

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

This is probably my number two book I am waiting for this year — number one was definitely Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. I had the honor of meeting Liggett when she was at Books of Wonder discussing her future release The Last Harvest, and I found her to be so amazing. I immediately became a fan, and have enjoyed her last two books quite a bit….neither of which are getting as much buzz as this book. A beautifully innocent cover for a book that is promised to be so dark… This book comes out September 17th, and I am already itching to read the galley I have of it!

Frankly in Love by David Yoon

I love the cover of this book. And I like his wife’s books. Is that a reason to trust this book will be good? No, but I have a faith! One of my favorite moments of Bookcon was watching David Yoon sign a poster for this book for his wife, Nicola Yoon. They might be my new OTP? Anyways, this book has a fake relationship trope, so I am here for it 100%. It comes out September 10th!

American Royals by Katharine McGee

I didn’t fully love The Thousandth Floor, but I did recognize an author that could tell a story that would keep me entertained. And America as a monarchy is definitely an AU I didn’t realize I was into, but I am super into it. I’ve been on hold with Netgalley for two months, which gives me little hope, and the mess at Bookcon kept me from getting a galley. But I am here for this. Book comes out September 3rd!

The Tenth Girl by Sara Faring

A Gothic story about a finishing school in Argentina? SIGN. ME. UP. I have not been able to get my hands on a galley of this book, which makes me all the more excited for this book to come out. This book comes out right before October (September 24th) and I am itching for a good horror book for October.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

This book and the next book are apparently part of series that have the same names. I am sure one will change at some point? Anyways, Bardugo has written an adult series! I haven’t actually read any of her books, but am aware of them and plan on doing so. Yale, dark upbringings, secret societies JUST GIVE ME THE BOOK NOW. But alas, I must wait until October 1st! There don’t appear to be many galleys of this in the world — I know they had some at BookExpo — so I am not holding up hope I’ll get a copy before it’s release.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

I know next to nothing about this book except necromancers and the cover. And that it is published by Tor, which is always a selling point in and of itself. There aren’t a ton of reviews of this book yet, though a bookseller in a book group I am in talked this up quite a bit. This book comes out September 10th, and the world will have a new love of some lesbian necromancers.

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

I am going to need to make time to read Carry On again and relive all the Simon Snow and Tyrannus Basilton “Baz” Grimm-Pitch enemies to lovers again in this wonderful meta fan fic come to life. And now add a road trip. In America. With more fantastical creatures. And more sour cherry scones. (Mari make me these!)
